herbs

Yeah dude! I got some seeds and soil for my b-day and now I'm growing herbs! I got some cilantro, basil, chives, rosemary, mint, and oregano. I can't wait until they get big enough to use for cooking!

sudoku: a new love

I decided to do the sudoku from the newspaper a couple of weeks ago because I had already finished the other puzzles. I never wanted to get into sudoku because everyone else raves about it-so you know- I have to be different. But I tried it anyways and now I'm slightly addicted!
you can print them off the web at www.websudoko.com

Cooking

Well in case you didin't know, I've never really been able to cook. I mean- I could make macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, and the typical stuff, but that was about it. But lately I've been experimenting a little more, and getting a lot better. In fact, I'm pretty impressed with my new skills. I DO have to say that I owe some of the new-found-talent to my some of my talented friends who have helped me out.. (Natalie, Maria, Amber,Alyssa- props.).. but mostly I have my subscription to reall simple to thank. Oh- and of course my online pals martha stewert and rachael ray.
Anyways. I thought I would share with you some of the stuff I've been cooking in the recent months.
Here is a list of some of my favs:
Ginger chicken with brown rice
Steak and soy with wasabi mashed potatoes
Black bean soup with chicken (natalie's concoction)
Orzo with zuchinni, tomatoes, olives and basil
Tortellini soup with chicken tomato and thyme
Bifanas with fried onions (this is portuguese)
Brussel sprouts with warm lemon vinagrette
Shrimp scampi with tomato and spinach
Roast beef sanwiches with avacado and cilantro
Pork loin wrapped with bacon with mushroom sauce
deserts:
Home-made lemon sorbet
baked bananna with warm chocolate sauce (this one's low fat!)
Natas (another portuguese one.. but really Tiago made most of it)

life updates: video

Video is fun. Here are some.

life updates: painting exhibition

I have a painting exhibition going on now at The Chapterhouse Cafe and Gallery on 9th street between Bainbridge and South Streets. I did a lot of new work for the show, and I'm pretty happy with the results.

life updates: being a bridesmaid.

I was in a wedding this January. It was the marriage of my BFF Meghan Touey and my homeboy Luke Pattrick O'Connell. WOW! What a wedding. It was spectacular.
Above are the bridesmaids and bride at the shower... and me coming down the isle.

life updates: museums

So I think most people know.. but I'm in grad school now for museum studies. These are just a few photos from my months studying museums...
This is me at the Franklin institute doing some serious field work:

Here I am leading a tour group onto the USS Olympia at the Seaport museum where I interned.

This is a photograph of the mural I did at the Philadelphia Art museum as part of my internship there.

.. and action painting at the Moma when I went to see the Serra exhibit. loved it btw.

life updates: boyfriend.

ha. ok.. well I'm going to start a few blogs that arre pretty much just an update of my life. One is that I have the best BF in the US or Europe. He is awsome. He is Tiago. We met when I went to Portugal with my friend Marta in 2006. Now he is in Philly and life is grand. Here are a few pictures in case you see him around town and you want to say "Hi" or "Ola!"

.. back to blogging.

Ok. So I always say that I'm going to blog more and then I never do it... but... because I am in graduate school now and I have NO life, I decided that this is a way that my peeps can feel in the loop. (Who am I kidding? No one ever reads my blog.)
Anyways, here is a current photo of me- in case many of you have forgotten what I actually look like.

Well anyways...
So I have a show coming up in about a year at the Chapter House off of south street. I've been working on some paintings that I'm pretty excited about. shhhhyeah.. they're rad.

ok so the image quality isn't the best but i guess you'll have to come see them for yourself.

Portugal

Sadly, I am home from my wonderful trip to Portugal. I arrived in lisbon after delays and lines and confusion and travel mess. When I finally got there I waited for Marta to meet me, so I walked around Lisbon for a whiel, and then I went to a cafe to relax. When Marta got there we went by train to Mealhada, the town where she lives. Unfortunately though, we missed the train stop, so we stopped in aveira where her friend Hugo picked us up and took us to her house. My whole travel time was about 35 hours long. I was pretty cranky to say the least. After a good night sleep the fun really began. A lot of my time there was spent meeting new people and Marta's awesome family. We went out almost everynight, and slept all day. We had a bunch of trips to the local beaches (which are nothing like the beaches here, and are incredible) and some trips to bordering towns and cities. I basically stayed up all night everynight I was there. This is a picture of me at Luso, a town famous for it's sring and endless water supply.

side walkin it and other hazards

ok.. so last night felicia and i decided to take the venture into center city for some well deserved sorbetto and gelato. we decided to walk.

it was a lovely time with nate and dan serving us our yummies and chit chatting about magazines and men and the likes. i enjoyed a hazelnut gelato on a cone in which nate so courteously filled with whipped cream, while felicia savored her double scoop strawberry sorbetto (which proved to be way too much for the dainty gal. i mean cmon flea.. you gotta learn how to be a pig here like me. hehe.)

we finished, and set out for the walk home. to spice up the evening we decided to take an alternative route home rather than going the same way we came. (wow.. i know what you're thinking: if this is spicing up your evening you gotta get out more! but im just using that type of language for the story..mmmkay?)
back to the story....
we walked down 13th street, and here's where the excitment started. as we walked a man on a bicycle came flying down the sidewalk. he wasn't just flying, he was swerving all over the place! and i dont mean laxadazical swaying from side to side, i mean CRAZY SWERVING! he was a mad man i tell you! a this point my knight in shining armor, felicia, was quick to her whits and screamed, "OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET OFF THE SIDEWALK YOU FUCKING RETARD!!!!!" and of course the lunatic rebuttled with an emphatic groan. (okay... sidebar here.. it WASN'T emphatic. i was using a literary tool called sarcasm)
at this point i laughed my ass of while other pedestrians: 1. instructed us on a better way of handling the situation. 2. watched in horror. 3. watched in delight.

we continued home, arriving at the house around 11 or so to discuss whether or not the 5 mile or so walk burned off any of the diabetes fest we had earlier indulged in.
it was a great little venture the two of us had. so glad we did it. we MUST do it again soon. (here's where i am making a flipping gesture with my wrist while batting my eyelashes)
ta ta.

im now in florence

im not really sure what of the trip i have posted already, but i am having the best time in my life! i dont think i ever want to come back. berlin was my favorite city so far. being on trains so much has given me a lot of time to think about things. i actually really enjoy that time... plus, i think i am beginning to become a loner. i am really enjoying being by myself and figuring things out myself.
all of the travelling stuff can get pretty confusing, especially when i dont know any language, but i am very proud of myself for figuring it out. i have been keeping a journal of all the specific little stories that have happpened... just a few now... i ll give you one for each city so far...
dublin...
in dublin the stereotypes are true.. people are always drunk. it was so fun. i ate at a place called the bad ass cafe in temple bar. and later that night i got to watch some drunk kid get arrested for snatching a bag. made some irish friends too

london...
in london, i stayed in the smelliest hostel ever!!! there was this kid in there who absolutely stunk!!! ugh. i had to sleep with potpurri in my face. haha. also, the police busted in the room at like 4 in the morning looking for some kid. they came in and messed up all his stuff, and went through his things and mattress and everything. then they took his passport and left. that was pretty interesting. also, a japanese guy came up to me and asked for my picture... i thought he wanted me to take a picture for him.. but he just took a picture of ME and then was like "thank you very much" and walked away. haha. oh!!! also in london, i went to a pub with think canadian guy i met, and we left on the underground where there was this really drunk girl pole dancing on the pole in the underground car... the BEST subway ride ever!! i got some good pics of that night.

paris...
paris was good. but i dont think anything funny happened.. cant remember anyway. oh wait... the tedster was paris, i forgot. oh teddy. the tedster. i met a guy in paris named teddy. he ended up being a big douche bag. ha!

berlin...
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. i want to move to berlin. i loved it there so much. i met an artist guy, and talked, and exchanged websites. i also bought one of his prints. he does collages that are political and also very funny and fucked up.
in berlin i got in trouble with the police. haha. ill explain later.. no big deal in the end. makes for a good story.

prague..
i met a girl in prague and made good friends with her (carly). we walked around and took a tour that we lost and got separated from. i also met a guy in the hostel who was born in the same hospital as me!! how wierd!! the gulash was delicious and the beer was cheap. i had a good time. haha.. figuring out the post office was pretty interesting too. got to go to the mucha museum as well!!

vienna...
oooh.. i got to see the leopold museum, with all of egon schiele s paintings. how wonderful. the word "wiener" was everywhere, you couldnt escape it!! haha.

venice..
i was in a pretty shitty mood the time i was in venice, because i hadnt slept for about 3 days or eaten in 2. but then i got some pizza and cake and felt much better. i even jumped in the water for a swim!

florence...
i am just now in florence, and i will be going to the beach later today. im happy because i got to finally do laundary.
any way.... those are just SOME of the great stories i have... i f i get time i will post some more, and maybe even some pictures.. like always, i have some really great pictures from this trip!!
miss everyone. love you all!!
